Use Console (it's in the Utilities folder in Applications) and search for events (you want to search in the "All Messages" log). By default it will show everything just like event viewer does but unlike event viewer it allows you to search for something specific. This will narrow down the list tremendously. On the commandline you'd do something similar with tools like grep, tail, head, view, less, etc.

Update: I got my Rosewill Trident X RNX-N2X wireless adapter working no thanks to "we don't really support Macs" Rosewill Tech support. I basically willed it to work. :p When I first hooked this up to my G5 Mac, I was getting a self generated IP address. I setup a connection to my home network, including passoword and created a profile. It said I was connected to my home network but I could not get online with it. I updated the Rosewill Utility, no help. In the Network Preferences Page, it also showed I was connected. So I started looking through the different pages of the Rosewill Utility. On the WPS page there were some settings like Config Mode, choices were Enrollee and Registrar. I have no idea what they mean but I switched it to Registrar. Then I noticed that a box for 'Auto select the AP' (which I have no idea what that does) was unchecked. When I checked it *vio-la* I had a good IP address and now I am online. Hurrah! Stumbling around sometimes, it actually works. :D:D No need to return it now.

I'm interested in hearing about other people's experiences in getting a tattoo removed. Please dispense with the usual "I would never get a tattoo", "tattoos are dumb", etc, etc, ad naseum. I'm currently getting one removed (YAG laser). Due to a number of coverups and the size of the damn thing, I've been getting treatments for quite a while now. We're talking many years and lots of moolah. So I'm particularly wondering how long it took (or is taking) for other people to get their tattoos removed, and where they got (or are getting) it done.

I've long been stuck on analog NTSC crap, and I'm considering buying a Sony HDR-FX1, which is a high-definition video camera. However, when I try to play back the 1080i movie trailers from Apple's site, it's slightly choppy. If my PowerBook has a hard time handling HD playback, will I be able to capture HD in FinalCut Pro?

Some of the processors will work with different boards. I've swapped CPUs around with different boards and not all of them worked with another. You can run a single processor on a dual processor board as long as it's in the upper slot. Swapping processors or Logic boards will require a thermal calibration. Do you have the Apple Serivce Diagnostics discs?
You should be able to use any 1.8ghz or 2.0ghz dual processor logic board. Make sure it has the same amount of memory slots.

Bravo guys. Capitalism can be energizing but it only works if the majority of citizens bother to vote in leadership that looks out for all citizens, not favor a handful of the most well off citizens. It's our fault we keep electing bozos to Washington.
The massive PR campaigns and spin carried out by all levels of government have nothing at all to do with it though right? :p
Seriously its a mix of an apathetic public when it comes to politics (how often do you hear "politics are so boring!"), and those in power abusing the public trust, whom don't get to see the inner workings of institutions.
At this point its really meaningless to participate in elections on the state and country levels if you are going to vote for the Republican or Democratic parties. They've been in power long enough to tweak the system to insure they stay in power, in tick-tock rotation.

Does the iPad sync both ways? For example, if I buy the camera connection kit and load pictures onto my iPad, when I connect it to my Macbook will sync go both ways, so the photos are added to my Macbook/not deleted from iPad?

The new ProKit 6.0.2 is NOT a good update for ANYONE using Final Cut Studios. From 1.5 up to FCS 3.
The Apple Discussion Forums are jam packed with people complaining that it is messing up their program. Me included. Most notably in DVD Studio Pro 4. Old projects cannot be opened and hang up upon opening and crash the program.
Here is the discussion thread with answer on how to fix it.

In short, you need to delete the Prokit 6.0.2 update and reinstall the previous version to ProKit 5.0.1. Once complete, everything fixes itself and runs correctly almost immediately.

I was thinking about this the other day- scanning work documents to archive on my computer. Plain text can be scanned in B&W, such that PDF's of your documents are very manageable in size- under 100 kb. For most business documents, I think this would be fine (or maybe 4-bit grayscale.)
It would be great if you had an OCR that automatically generated a PDF file with both the original scanned 'image', and the OCR results. This way you'd have both in a single file, and could toss the original knowing you could correct for OCR mistakes later. Of course, these documents would also be Spotlightable.
Xerox has a scanner which seems to be more focused on text documents rather than images. It has a document feeder, seems fast, and I think it's within your budget (I'm an ignorant American so I'm no sure ;))

I can post on Twitter as well as this page about the line and such. I plan to go to the store Thursday night around 8:00 PM. If there is no line I'll hang until closing time and if there is no line then I'll show up early in the morning, maybe 4 or 4:15.

I bet they get multiple shipments Friday and Saturday. Their big problem last year was not enough stock, I don't think they will make the same mistake.

Ridiculously high starting bids cut down on the early bidders; and reserves cut down on the mid-term bidders. When you cut down on bidders at all, you cut down the maximum price. (For all but the ultra-rarest of items, where it'll go for insane amounts no matter what price you put, like an Apple I.)

Anyway, transcoding audio from one compressed format and codec to another format and codec will not make the audible quality better, as there is nothing there to make it better. You need to rip the original audio CDs again with better settings to gain quality.
try this:
take an empty pop can, place it on the floor, smash it flat, now try to pull it back to how it was.
see how it looks like crap? that's called compression
